Ouch.
Recently the Halo Wars leaderboards encountered a bizarre problem and thus resulting in the leaderboards being out of action. Now, a statement has been released from a member of the Xbox Live team under the Gamertag of “Major Nelson”
It has this to say: “I wanted to make you aware of an unfortunate incident that has resulted in the loss of all data on the Halo Wars Xbox LIVE Leaderboards. This includes all singleplayer, multiplayer and Trueskill leaderboards, as well as all matchmaking data, resulting in the Halo Wars leaderboards being reset to original launch day status.
This was human error related to Xbox LIVE servers. It is not a broader service issue and will not impact other titles or Xbox LIVE experiences. The Xbox LIVE team is investigating the cause to prevent this from occurring in the future.
Thank you to Robot Entertainment for working with us through this issue and thank you to our Halo Wars community for your patience as we’ve sorted this out. On behalf of everyone at Xbox LIVE, I’d like to apologize for the incident and any frustration Halo Wars players have experienced in having their statistics disappear from the Leaderboards. You can rest assured that we’re putting processes in place to prevent this from happening in the future.”
A question that I would like to ask the Live team is why didn’t they backup the information?
Now that everyone has been reset to the same rank, how many hardcore gamers do you think are going to want to climb up the ladder again, knowing that they can easily be beaten by a “newb”?
And I can’t begin to imagine how number 1 feels right now.

Wow crazy you would think Microsoft would have a gazillion raided, clustered and clouded servers with real time backups so this wouldn’t happen. I guess all their money has been sunk into making Bills cyborg body and they had to skimp out somewhere….
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- wait, I don’t play Halo…
Still, this is gonna give a lot of people some unpleasant surprises. Being slaughtered by low-rank people and the leaderboard shifting around like the guy in charge of it smoked something.
Well at least there is one good outcome from this all, no one will be saying: “I’m a higher rank than you noob” when engaged in an argument on Halo Wars.
I can imagine I’d be pretty darn peeved if I wasn’t a casual gamer – it doesn’t really matter to me what my ranking is I just play to enjoy. If I was the sort of person who invested hours to get to somewhere like number 1, this news would hit pretty hard. I think I find it more worrying that they say its a human error…
lol “loss of data”. I used to hear my guy friends talk about how their ranks were low and etc. Very hilarious. Halo….
Yeah, people always go on about ranks on Halo, I never see it on Call of Duty.
You can’t rank down in COD. Halo 2′s ranks meant something back in the day before all moders and delevelers started popping up. Usually only cheats make to the top of game leaderboards.
