Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Not Banned In Russia

contrary to some new sites out there Activision has denied that Russia has banned Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

“Reports that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been banned in Russia are erroneous. Activision only released a PC version of the game in Russia which went on sale on Tuesday, Nov. 10,” the U.K’s Daily Telegraph reported, citing an official company statement.

Modern Warfare 2 a mega hit worldwide, contains a level “Airport Level”  in which users play an undercover operative accompanying a band of Russian terrorists, who assault a civilian airport. As expected, reaction to the level in Russia was extremely negative as with all countries they do not like being portrayed as Terrorists,  this is actually a long ongoing feud with the US movie and games industry and countries such as Russia and others in the Middle East.

  1. OK Lots of conflicting news about this one. Activision says not banned but other russian websites and news syndication claim banned and Activision has patched the Russian airport level to be skipped in Russia… anyone have definitive news?

  2. I’m glad the game was not really banned, but considering how sensitive the Russians are over their image abroad, it would not have been totally unexpected if they had done so.

It’s interesting to speculate how we would react if we saw all the games in Iran and elsewhere where we are the villains….
