Call of Duty Franchise Rakes in Over $3 Billion

With the addition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which raked in over $550 million in just its first five days of release, the Call of Duty franchise has now made over three billion dollars, reports That Videogame Blog.

Since the first game in the franchise was released in 2003, the Call of Duty games have sold over 55 million units. It’s crazy that the franchise has made so much money in just six years, but it’s all thanks to Modern Warfare 2 having the biggest entertainment launch in history.

“Call Of Duty has become one of the greatest entertainment franchises of all time,” says Activision CEO Bobby Kotick. “If you consider the number of hours our audiences are engaged in playing Call of Duty games, it is likely to be one of the most viewed of all entertainment experiences in modern history.”

He’s definitely onto something, as Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer has dominated my nights ever since it was released a few weeks ago. In fact, last I check, I think I’ve put well over 30 hours into the multiplayer, despite the game being out for less than 3 weeks. Yeesh.

And to really grasp how much $3 billion is, take three thousand dollars, which is a sizable chunk of cash, and then times it by one million. There you go.
