Last week we reported on the arrival of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars to Sony’s PlayStation Portable. The game which was previously released for the Nintendo DS is now being ported to Sony’s handheld and is scheduled for an October release, and this is due to poor sales on Nintendo’s dual-screen system. Despite being lauded for its gameplay and new features to the series, the title didn’t fare so well. As a result, Rockstar has decided to release the game on multiple portable devices. Apple iPhone and iPod Touch owners everywhere will now be able to experience all the car-jacking, civilian-mugging, rampage-causing thrills of one of Rockstar’s latest endeavors in their popular Grand Theft Auto series.
While not much is known about the most recent port of the game, it will undoubtedly have the same story, missions, and content of the DS version. While the touch screen controls were obviously omitted from the PSP version of the game, it is safe to assume that those features will remain intact in the iPhone version due to its touch-based interface. Rockstar Games president Sam Houser stated that he was excited about the port to Apple’s platforms and went on to say, “Chinatown Wars is a perfect match for the iPhone and iPod Touch.” It seems very apparent that the touch screen controls were something that the people over at Rockstar were very enthusiastic about.
No exact release date has been announced, but Rockstar’s official website indicates a fall 2009 release. The game will be available for purchase through the App Store.
