Phantasy Star Zero is a role-playing game that is developed for the Nintendo DS. Sega developed and published the game that is a part of the Phantasy Star series. It was released on 25 December 2008 in Japan. The game is also set to be released in North America and Europe some time in the fall of 2009 and autumn of 2009 respectively. A mini version is also available for the DSi.

The game has visual chat that you can look forward to when you play online with other players. Communication is enabled by drawing on the DS’ touch screen. The online modes for Phantasy Star Zero include the Friend Mode, Single Mode and the Free Mode.
The Friend mode allows you to invite friends into a private room so you can battle together. The single mode allows you to play online on your own. You are competing against yourself and trying to beat your self-imposed standard.
Lastly, there is the free mode, where you are given a randomly picked partner to help you play in the game. For those who are looking forward to an offline option, you have the full story mode made available to you.

There are two new weapon classes in Phantasy Star Zero namely, shields and gunslashes. The shields are only meant to block out an attack or rather protect you from being hurt. On the other hand, the gunslash is both a sword and a gun. This weapon can be used in both cases of short range and long range.

There is also a wide choice of weapons that you can choose from including the ones that I have mentioned making a total of 350 weapons. Phantasy Star Zero is a hack and slash game that is part of the Phantasy Star series including Phantasy Star, Phantasy Star II, Phantasy Star III and Phantasy Star IV on the main series. On the online series, Phantasy Star Online. Phantasy Star Online Episode I&II, Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution, Phantasy Star Online IV and Phantasy Star Zero.

The Universe version series of this game consists of Phantasy Star Universe, Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminis and Phantasy Star portable. The game has no rating yet as it is yet to be released to the rest of the world.
