Classic Sonic Collection Release for DS

Many of us have been disappointed with some of Sonics 3D adventures. The series just didn’t seem to translate into the 3rd dimension quite as well as other 2D classics – such as – Final Fantasy, Mario or Metroid.

Newer side-scrolling additions to the series such as Sonic Rush have gave us the nostalgic return to a gaming icon and Sega are acknowledging what their fans want. The Sonic Classic collection, due for release in Spring 2010 on DS will compile four of Sonic’s classic adventures from the Sega Genesis;

  • Sonic The Hedgehog
  • Sonic The Hedgehog 2
  • Sonic The Hedgehog 3
  • Sonic & Knuckles.

“The original Sonic the Hedgehog games were the start of a pop culture phenomenon that extended beyond just the video game world,” commented Sean Ratcliffe, Vice-President of Marketing for SEGA of America. “The Sonic Classic Collection will introduce a whole new generation of gamers to this beloved Hedgehog and take them back to his humble beginnings.”

This should give you retro game fans something to look forward to.

  1. Yay! Retro fan right here. I remember spending hours playing this game with my son when he was about 8 years old. He’d get to a certain point and then hand me the controller to help him move on to the next level. Great memories.

  2. That better include the ability to play Sonic 3 and Knuckles as well. That right there was the peak of Sonic the Hedgehog.

  3. It certainly does. Sonic 1-3 plus knuckles, as stated in the post. Sonic 2 is probably my personal favourite.

    @tongyun: I’ve got some very similar memories (roles reversed) playing Super Mario Bros. on the NES with my Dad. Retro games conjure up some very fond memories for me.
